Mountain of Blessings Sponsorship/ Afterschool Program
Sponsorships are at the core of MDM Honduras programs, providing an educational scholarship and afterschool program that helps children and at-risk youth overcome the financial and academic barrier that interrupts their formal education. Sponsorships are awarded to students with leadership potential to continue their academic education at local schools and to further their development through the MDM afterschool programs. Parent(s) also participate with MDM in providing educational support by learning to tutor children, helping maintain the MDM school buildings or helping with other ministry activities through MDM.
Currently, MDM supports education on the mountain in three ways:
- After school tutoring at the San Matias Operations Center
- Classroom support and afterschool tutoring at the Mulular community school
- Classroom support and afterschool tutoring at the Resicapa community school
The average cost for children to attend school is $600 per year
MDM sponsorships help offset costs for:
- Uniforms, shoes, books, backpacks, school supplies
- MDM’s afterschool program with homework assistance, tutoring and spiritual formation classes
- Daily transportation to Tegucigalpa, text books, lab fees, and meals for high school and university students
